Utada Profile Updated with Small Changes

Utada (US)

Utada’s “About Me” section on her MySpace page has been tweaked with several small changes:

  • The track titled “FYI” has changed to “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence – FYI”
  • “Apples and Cinnamon” is now “Apple and Cinnamon”
  • The album title is now in all caps – “THIS IS THE ONE”

Thanks to Ghostdog and barried for pointing these out.

  2. Fannboyie says:

i want to hear all of the songs! xD

It’s nice that Ryuichi’s song is actually in the name. I don’t know whether it’s for good or not until I buy the album, and listen to the song.

    Ouch, I was late.
She should do FYI as a single. Let’s hope! :D

I think before it wasn’t Utada who put up the Bio..so maybe she read over it and made those corrections. Anyhow, I wonder if the MV will come out on Monday as well…I don’t know how it works in the US…but in most asian countires, the MV usually comes out after the song been out for a few weeks…In Taiwan the album comes out and then four to five MVs will come out after.

    WHY?
I’ve seen it thousands of times and I still don’t get it. Why are a LOT (if not most) of the Japanese song/album titles in CAPS? Is there any special reason for this???

I liked the title F.Y.I better than Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence – FYI. The latter feels way too long and it just seems so random… plus Christmas is over :/ It seems strange to me.

  8. RJ says:

^Maybe the beginning of the song is more or less a “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” intro, followed by the song proper; hence splitting the title into two parts? The new title is a little unwieldy for sure…

  9. FanFan86 says:

I love Mr. Sakamoto’s and Yellow Magic Orchestra’s work….this should be interesting.

  10. ^Yeah, I love them 2, mainly because I’ve developed a recent fetish for techno/electronica music which is their specialty! That 1st track title officially takes the cake for most unique Utada song title yet (can’t wait 2 read the lyrics though), hopefully we’ll know by this week the rest of the tracklisting and if their will be a special ITunes Edition…

  11. Bluesheep02 says:

I love how it’s more original now!

  12. InnerRise says:

Maybe the whole “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” part is like an interlude into F.Y.I as “Gentle Beast Interlude” was to “Celebrate”.

Either way, I don’t like that title. I’m going to have to listen to this Mr. Lawrence and see what it’s all about.

I also recommend ‘Energy Flow’ and ‘Rain’ by Ryuichi Sakamoto
and search “Babel Bibo no Aozora” in youtube and watch the Bibo No Aozora one with Endless Flight.
    Simply brilliant and beautiful.

  14. FiresEmblem says:

Here is the Bibo no Aozora one if you couldn’t find it:

I’m in love with that song. T-T

  15. FanFan86 says:

I think that Bibo no Aozora is Mr. Sakamoto’s masterpiece….also listen to Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence the complete soundtrack. It’s really a great buy!

  16. vmoriyama says:

Mr. Lawrence is such a beautiful piece! So I’m really looking forward to F.Y.I.

  18. InnerRise says:

Thanks FresEmblem. Just listened to that Babel Piece and also Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and I’m actually a little bit excited for this song now. I especially like the opening to Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. Atmospheric and Sad.

  19. ^Yea, i hope its either an interlude and track segued 2gether or the song title is in fact just F.Y.I, its just so much better and not as awkward, given 1. Its not x-mas an longer and 2. mr. lawrence reference is well, strange @ the worst but an interesting and creative addition @ best. I have a good feeling the PV will be released the day of the single to networks, or in the same week’s time frame….I think the reason they capitalize all the letters in the album titles (@Zeon) is 2 incite excitement during any promotional actions (Japan treats this process quite a bit more aggresively and actively than the U.S. does in general)!

  20. I think Bibo No Azora was a better piano piece than Merry X-mas Mr. Lawrence, but I hope thats not the whole base of the melody to F.Y.I, and its just a slight sample. It just doesn’t really fit her singing or melody style, hopefully it’ll also be a little more upbeat to because I can’t see this song going for 2 much radioplay unless the lyrics and music video were something unforgettable….

  21. DaAmainator says:

@ vmoriyama: I totally agree with you. That’s exactly what I thought. Looks like someone wasn’t being “professional” about their job. Hikki hates that.

  22. FiresEmblem says:

It would be interesting to see Utada not add any percussion to FYI, and use the sample, and maybe a bit some other instruments; but make it purely OF instruments. No computer sounds, or drum machines. A more introspective, sad, soft, acoustic sound. I think if Utada did that, it would be brilliant, and all the more reason to love the song.

  23. barried says:

I love an accoustic song being companied with a computer sound ^_^

everyone with a Lawrence name should be happy ^_^

  24. Hikki Love . says:

FYI stands for “For Your Information”?

I am really looking forward too this. I love Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and I now cannot wait any longer for this album.

  25. FanFan86 says:

^^For your information, Bibo no Aozora is originally on Ryuichi Sakamoto’s album Smoochy.

  26. FanFan86 says:

^^The Babel Soundtrack has the best version though.
