Oricon has released their weekly album sales chart, and Utada’s “Single Collection Vol. 2″ comes in at #1, with 231,000 units sold. This is Utada’s 7th consecutive #1 album (5 original, 2 best), passing the previous record held by Kinki Kids with 6 #1 albums. Congratulations to Utada.

Oricon Sales, Utada Hikaru (JPN)

Yay this is exciting to hear! <3 Utada
D
I hope her sales keep going strong in the 2nd week.
OMG thats awesome! congrats Hikki! <33
It looks sales will stay consistent enuff (10-20K+ through year’s end) where’ she can make it into the Top 10 of the Yearly Ranks. Hopefully the new Pepsi CM, word-of-mouth, and Yokohoma concerts will give the album an accelerated performance after tehy’re broadcasted nationwide!…
BTW, Does anybody know what was UHSCV2’s daily index sales for Monday and Tuesday, November 29 and 30th were @ Oricon? Thanks (I think it alsready passed up TITO’s Japan-total)!…
Yo Utada, I’m really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but unless you put this album up on iTunes US by next week, I’m Limewiring it.
LimeWire is dead isn’t it?
Oh, is it? To be honest I don’t use Limewire, I just figured it was easier to say that than “go on Utadanet and find the mp3 download links someone posted a week or so ago.” My b.
It’s just frustrating because I love her music and I want to support her work by downloading it legally, but it’s not on iTunes and I’m not going to pay an insane amount to import the album when I already own most of the tracks. I can’t think of any other way to legally purchase the music…
How much is it in itunes?
This is so FLOP T___________T
She used to sell at least 1 Mil on the 1st week T_T
This is great news. Just as most of us had expected, Hikki grabs the number one spot on the charts once again. However, I’m a bit disappointed in the sales. With only 231,000 units sold, this is by far her lowest first-week sales of any of her Japanese albums. This isn’t Hikki’s fault; she promoted a LOT for this album, and she’s been super busy with upcoming promotions as well. I’m just disappointed that more people didn’t take the time to buy it. Like someone posted earlier, I really hope that the sales are steady enough up until the end of the year so UHSC vol 2 can reach the 1 million mark.
I just find it weird because Hikki barely even promoted UHSC vol 1 at ALL, and it still managed to sell over 1 million the first week (and eventually over 2.5 million), whereas I don’t think she has ever promoted an album as fiercely as she did with UHSC vol 2, and it only sells 231,000?…
^ Don’t forget to consider the fact that we live in a very digital age. Though her physical sales are “FLOP”, as someone else put it, UHSCV2 is still a strong digital seller. I’m still waiting for the digital sales release.
(meanwhile, how the HECK did Mr. Children manage to sell 100k+ in debut? I swear Japan idolizes Boy rock bands wayyy too much.)
