Utada took to Twitter today to inform fans that the upcoming Universal Japan release, “Utada The Best,” was conceived entirely against her will. She says, “I understand that if it doesn’t sell I’m the one who will take the hit, but to be honest, I don’t want my fans putting down money for something that my heart isn’t in.” She goes so far as to call out Universal for deciding to release the compilation album on the same day as EMI’s legitimate release, “Single Collection Vol. 2.” Utada mentions a more formal announcement will be coming in the next few days. Stay tuned.

marketing marketing marketing…
money money money…
I knew this was too bad to be true.
Once again, Hikki keeps being honest.
I knew it was just too bad and too unexpected to be true; well, @ least we got confirmation on Hikki’s part. It makes one feel better about whether or not to buy the thing but I still hope its at least relatively successful in Japan just for her sake, not for Universal’s psychotic greed…
I love it when artists stick it to their labels, which are always so greedy. This reminds me of when Kelly Clarkson announced her strident opposition to “Already Gone” becoming a single, since she knew it was a blatant rehash of Beyonce’s “Halo.” Those record labels will do anything to make a buck! It’s nice seeing a true artist like Utada standing up for herself.
yes it’s good that utada say the truth
Go Hikaru!
thats my girl!!!! always speaking the truth, always giving it her best
