aww aha sad day for fans.

Well this has been fun.

All that wait for nothing. I can’t even imagine Beautiful World Planitb sounding good..No B-side either?

This is horrible news IMO, but I wouldn’t go that far out as to say that she’s totally burnt out now and her career is over.
Rather, I’d say she’s just been inactive to the max (for a really long time, something like a year).
I’m pretty disappointed in her though.

It’ not a sequel, there are 4 movies in total.
What does that mean for the remaining 2 movies? 2 more remixes of Beautiful World? That’s why I’m finding it hard to believe that this is legit still.
She said in February that she was in Japan working on 2 songs, this is a remix which means that she had no hand in it, it was remixed by other people.

Maybe the producer has not enough money to pay her for making a new song (Utada isn’t that cheap and easy artist).
She worked out so hard since 2007 for HS and TITO. She needs an extra hiatus.

Then with the downloads starting I guess this is final. The theme is the remix, without a shadow of a doubt. The whole “follow-up” thing was misleading, I have to say. Calling it a “Remix” would have sufficed :/

Oh well. I am very curious to hear it though. Better be one hell of a remix is all I can say.

My theory is that Utada got sick and didn’t finish the single and the producers of Eva needed something to replace he missing work with so they decided to whip up a remix to the old theme song. I really believe the singles she was working on were for this movie and it just didn’t work out in her favor. Anyone agree? Disagree?

Honestly I’m disappointed a little. I thought it’d be a new song but at least she still has the new single in August. I also wish that it would’ve been a regular PLANITb remix but I guess acoustic is ok, I just wish we could hear it already. It should be interesting, maybe it’ll be added to the new single as a physical bonus track, or just a regular bonus track at that.

We wanted a new song. Nothing ridiculous about expecting the possibility of a new song. The way the news was worded was misleading at best. We got disappointed. Reasonable response.

well, we still have “9 Sai no Omoide” which CDjapan says will be released August 21st.

“9 Sai no Omoide” was not on precious so its not really recycled, and who cares, you shouldnt be spoiled for new songs every month, it takes time to make good music, and she’s only human. Would you rather her pump out mediocre songs every month like some artist do?

@soulsteelgray: well ‘obviously’ you should consider other people’s feelings. Some people put more heart in to what Hikki does in terms of her music, and so when the outcome doesn’t live up to their expectations, they can’t help but feel a bit hurt. No one here has said that they are ungrateful for the makers of EVA 2.0 continuing to support Utada through using her music for the films. We are merely expressing our discontent that there is no new material, and our anxiety that we haven’t heard from Utada in a while. For all we know she could be back in the hospital. It’s guaranteed that people are going to get a little upset. This is quite possibly the longest we’ve waited for a message from Hikki. It’s especially difficult when pop stars like Ayumi and Namie are in the press almost every single day. It’s hard to get continuous updates about other JPop stars when the one you cherish most hasn’t been heard of in quite some time.

Anyway the reason why people are pissed off ( including myself) is because EMI should have just announced awhile back that it was gonna be a remix and not leave us all hanging thinking it it was a new song.
Especially now that she has ceased all promotion with TITO been silent for 2 months.
I’m telling you guys this is not like her, she probably got married and has a bun in the oven( Hikaru Part 2). She has mentioned it twice now during interviews this year that she wants to have a baby. Once news comes out people will forget all about this and be very happy for her.

Though, y’know, as soulsteelgrey once said about Shiina Ringo’s fans, I’m beginning to see more criticism than praise circling Utada. Sheesh. When folks ask for more and Utada can’t deliver, I don’t know who’d gonna self-combust more: the fans or the artist?

i agree with you.. co z i just thought of it.. BW/K&C had FMTTM (IOW) -2007 MIX- and it was an OST for Eva as well.. it is a slower OST for the movie paired with BW.. And (just keeping my hopes up) i think there will still be something new.. something upbeat.. remember, Hikki said she wants to do something weird again.. i’m really looking forward to it. ^_^

I actually think this sounds pretty different…I can hear the guitar and new percussion pretty loudly…and all of the original synth melodies are completely removed…

^ To be honest, WE are the ones who have been anticipating so much for this ‘new’ song…they have done exactly the opposite that perked our interest in this song. All that we were fed was minimal (or lack of) promotion on this Eva 2.0 theme song.

I agree that its crap that neither EMI Japan or IDJ sent a representative to update fans Utada’s condition.

she was swammped with promotions
we’ve heard about 40 interviews from her most including radio interviews that included travel time. She had the Sephora events and the performance. Although it may not seem a lot she was pretty busy and IMO if this single she was working on was infact for the eva movie I believe between the promotions and the illness she did not have time to finish the single in time for the movie. I believe the remix was a last minute replacement. It makes sense to me because of the fact that we weren’t given a title until the last minute… maybe because of a delay???.

Oh, I think the new remix is a wonderful song! It’s a wee bit weird listening to it and remembering the original version though, but it’d win my full-fledged love if it was the original!
And I actually think it has a more Evangelion-like feel to it than the first one. Listening to Beautiful World as the credits rolled was a bit off for me.

As for the “OHMAHGAWD IT AIN’T A GODDAMN NEW SONG” issue, I’m not gonna lie and say I’m not disappointed, but I’m relieved she at least didn’t presented a new re-mastered version of “Fly Me To The Moon”. That would be a perfect mood killer. And I believe the remix was a movie production decision. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next two Evangelion songs would be two new remixes.

Utada siad she was working on a main song and a coupling track. Just like Beautiful World/Kiss & Cry which also had Fly Me Too The Moon.

She might have another two songs with this remix in the single because this song will not fit in an album.

Maybe Utada wanted us to anticipate and makes us “AWWW, WTH it’s just a remix.” and then BAM! a new single pops out of nowhere becoming number 1.

For whoever got pissed big time bout not getting a new song and now screaming NO I NEVER ANTICIPATED ANYTHING AND ITS ALL HER FAULT, listen to yourself.

I got TITO today, in an HMV in Canada! I was so thrilled to see it. And there was only one copy, which surprised me. It cost like, 18 dollars, but there was some sort of sale on it that reduced the price to about 16 dollars. I was having my doubts, but after I saw the album, I knew I had to get it. =D

On topic:
Gar. I think a lot of fans are over-reacting. I am very dissappointed too. I wanted a new single, something to live up to the expectations, the hype. A new blog post, of course. Promotion for TITO. Something. And we are pushed a remix. Not the best one…but creative, as to make a song as ethereal as Beautiful World, and make it acoustic. I never knew that 9-year-old memories would be recycled content, but either way, most of us have never heard the songs on precious. And for those of us who have, it would be great to hear them in Utada’s more mature voice, and her mature song-writing.
Some fans are claiming Utada has lost talent, run out of steam, and that doesn’t make any sence, at all. Utada is Utada… she hasn’t even released an album yet. Maybe she’s taking a hiatus, god knows she deserves it. She’s been releasing albums pretty much year after year. So, people, chill. We’re dissappointed, but Utada’ll pull through in the end.

Im pretty sure you wouldnt want to. and LOTS of artist dont even have blogs are way of communicating with fans, so its not like hikki’s ignoring us by not telling us where she is every second of the day.

Nothing has been said about resinging those old songs. As of now they’re just being re-released as they always were.

The new remix is bleh. It has more of an Anime feel and I guess it fits the movie in a whole new and perhaps better way but I am not pleased with it. Was a JOB to sit through the whole thing. It’s not something I’ll be coming back to although it was nice to hear some background vocals brought to the forefront. I could hear parts more clearly and it confirmed some stuff that I thought I heard in the original that I now know was actually there. Disappointing all the same.

And what’s with people whining about Utada getting back on the “This Is The One” Tour but as soon as others whine about a possible new song it’s like “Stop it. You’re expecting too much and she’s recovering from a NEAR DEATH experience and she needs a break and she can never please her ridiculous fans”, and all that jazz. You can’t have it both ways. Hypocritical. That’s still demanding something from her. You’re just like everybody else.

The new remix sounds like the Miley Cyrus version of Beautiful World, LOL the original is way better.
Anyway, everybody needs to settle down (including me). It is quite obvious now that there is something wrong with our beloved songstress and we need to stop whining about this song.
With TITO promotion at a stand still, no blog posts or updates in 2 months we need to wait and hope that she pulls through whatever sickness she has and gets back to the her old self.
Instead of spending your time bashing her on here let’s go to her official Japanese website and send her a short get well letter, she will really appreciate that gesture.
You people don’t know how lucky we are to be fans of this wonderfully talented and sweet young lady and I think alot of people are now taking it for granted.
Hikki is the richest woman in Japan, she can retire tomorrow and her great grandchildren will live comfortably. She does what she does not for money but because she loves to create beautiful music and for US, her fans. Don’t ever forget that.

Nothing is OBVIOUS. Some people on here are bipolar and notorious for jumping to conclusions on opposite ends of the spectrum. First her career is over and she has nothing else to give, then she’s married and pregnant and now she’s preparing her Will for her grandkids. It’s already been stated multiple times how every artist doesn’t blog or keep their fans up to date on every aspect of their life. What Utada does in that respect is extra and not NECESSARY or MANDATORY of a Celebrity. You’ve just been spoiled and expect too much. Her days of having to check in with her parents on her whereabouts are over and she certainly doesn’t have to check in with us. Stop writing Utada’s OBITUARY and wait until she actually dies okay. Sheesh.

I kinda wish she took a long break after Heart Station before starting work on her English album. Then she could have let her voice recover back to her Deep River days and promoted the hell out of TITO.

I know exactly why people want her to and it still doesn’t matter frankly. When someone doesn’t post on a blog and the only logical ASSUMPTION is that they’re on their death bed something is wrong, not with her, but those that assume that. She shouldn’t have to post on her blog to show she’s alive and she doesn’t have to. What if she didn’t have a blog? Would she just cease to exist?

I agree that she or her management team has to talk about her health situation, at least.

She has many fans not only in Japan, but in many countries waiting for some news about her. It doesn’t take more than 10 minutes to them post it.

Utada should be mentioned on wikipedia’s list of best selling musicians of all-time, but she isn’t anymore. She was for a short-while and then someone took her off.

This is really upsetting to me especially considering Ayumi is still on the list and she’s only sold about 20 million (if even) more than Utada.

As I listen to the original and this remix, it reminded me about Kingdom Hearts.
She wrote and remixed the song for the anime, probably not as a single.

Does anyone have any other good Asian artists that I can obsess over in the meantime, ;-P?

And, not to belabor the subject of the whole “is she at her peak” thing, but she said in an interview (God alone remembers which) that she was planning on making a “weird” next Japanese album. I specifically remember her saying that. So I really don’t think she’s done with music unless something weird came up and we really have no evidence that it did.

I’m not loving this very much and I like the original version more.
But I do like they at least remix the song and create something new. I’d be too harsh for hikki to create something not by her own intention especially she’s sick and need time to recover.

Some points of interest from the interview:
- ‘This One’ was the last song recorded for the album. The line ‘This one, this is the one/Come on and give it up’ prompted her to name the album TITO
-Exodus was introverted, experimental, she wanted to prove a point about being different and showing her uniqueness
-TITO lets her step out into the open to let people see who she really is, that’s why she thinks of it as her ‘true debut’
-She wanted other people to do the arranging and trackmaking so that she would be free to focus on vocals and writing. Tricky and Stargate were chosen because American listeners are familiar with them
-Come Back To Me is quite a straightforward song so she didn’t want a cheesy storyline-based video. The dude in the video is supposed to be ghostly presence, can’t tell if he’s really there or not. She also admits to cheating, and says she can’t think of any other song about a woman asking for forgiveness after being unfaithful ( I can! Try Jazmine Sullivan’s ‘Need U Bad’)
-The US market is conservative, the radio and listeners are not interested in anything outside of the US
-Americans can’t seem to grasp the concept of being bicultural

She’s in the rather curious position of being both an insider and an outsider at the same time. Sometimes I think it might have been better to keep a lid on her Japanese catalogue and to market her as just another American artiste trying to promote her new record

I checked out most of her Japanese fan sites, and most of the Japanese fans have appreciated the new Acoustica mix. After some fans already saw the Evangelion movie yesterday, all of them have applauded the song, saying that the arrangement of the song is very suited for the movie.
On the other hand, American fans always complain although they don’t know what the new movie is like.
BTW, the Japanese fans are so worried that Utada might have done some surgery for her old vocal cord polyps or severe peri-tonsillitis.
