“Poppin’” will divide audiences, but probably not to the extent of “Easy Breezy.” I just think some ignorant people will find it “annoying” because they’re not used to hearing a song that has some originality in it after all the crap that’s on everyday. It’s not a safe choice, and I wouldn’t advise IDJ on pushing it as the 2nd single. “Come Back To Me” is not a “summer song,” but it’s damn good!
scott_o_k: I’d have no problem if they actually wrote “Utada is famous and popular like Britney Spears!”, but they only billed her as “The ‘Japanese/Asian Britney Spears’”. That makes someone think she’s just a puppet of the music industry like Britney. The first reader comment proves what a lot of people who know nothing of Utada will think when reading this.
“Poppin’” is NOT the next single. It was played on the Elvis Duran show from Z100 New York when Utada was a guest, and that show is simulcast on 4 other radio stations. Nothing about the next single has been decided.
My only regret about all these articles is that there not necessarily saying anything we more serious fans don’t already know but HOPEFULLY more U.S. people that’ve never really heard of Utada or anything relative will start picking up on these little advertisements and promo features!…
for me, it’s not bad to compare Hikki to britney.. i know hikki doesn’t want that.. she even mentioned in one interview back in EXODUS era (oh yeah, they’ve used that comparison way back before..), popularity-wise, yeah, maybe they are alike..
people always tend to compare things.. like when u meet a new friend, u would think of other people u have known before like “ur a little like this and a little like that and this and that”.. just like when u listen to a new song.. u can’t help but to compare it to other songs like “it has a little feel of Mariah (for example) on it..” or someone else..hehe..
but with this MTV article, hmmm, i think there are more on the upside than the downside effects on it.. look, people who like britney will, of course, check who’s-this-utada-girl-that-MTV-says-like-britney thing.. and the same goes to people who like to know more about hateful-things-to-hate-about-britney-and-everything-connected-to-it.. as well as to those people who are like i-like-the-old-britney-but-not-the-britney-now.. the only downside about it is that for the people who are like i-don’t-give-a-f**k-about-britney..

We’ll have to see if Poppin’ does well request wise that might have some influence along with the iTunes downloads.

MTV is counting how many people watched “CBTM” there. It is 1868 count, so far.

So, go there to watch to increase the count so that MTV will put the CBTM video on TV.
