I’m just hoping that some radio stations will play CBTM again. Maybe when the physical release is out?

FinalThrottle added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 7:40 pm

FinalThrottle, I think CBTM is so strong it could be re-released. Look at The Veronicas’ song “Untouched”, it was apparently re-released to US radio TWO times before it became a hit! lol They must’ve had a lot of faith in that one, but that’s a good thing.

Bluevilla added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 7:48 pm

Hey, that’s really amazing. Let’s hope it gets noticed more!

Utada Hikaru rocks!!!

Fannboyie added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 8:01 pm

While 7k is a good start, that won’t get her on the charts…A re-release sounds like a great idea, and with a new single cover! Haha…

Utada’s “Come Back To Me” is attracting “considerable buzz”…?
That’s good isn’t it? don’t dat mean people are talking about this song?

red_imitation added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 8:45 pm

shes what you call real talent that blows proportions and works hard for her success…unlike some musicians” who make it mainstream because they have a hit…they’re the one ruining the true meaning of musical or singing talent…there are so many talented singers out there(not just utada) but you have to go digging deep for the good stuff…why??why???man its so so sad. but anyways, (after putting my two-sense into that topic; after a gazillion times)good job HIKARU…i know you can do this!!

itaikoon added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 8:49 pm

On iTunes, CBTM has been purchased more off the album than off the single (meaning, more people bought CBTM off TITO than the single itself), so this number might actually be lower than it should be. TITO is #10 on the pop charts currently, so say goodbye to the buzz for now…

and ok..sorry for double posting but after writing the comment above, i went to go wash dishes and throw out the garbage, and while i was doing that (i know it has nothing to do w/ this post)but i was thinking….if utada does shatter proportions of the mainstream music industry around North America, what are the chances that she’ll just become a one(or two)-hit-wonder?it brought my hopes really down, and that word just freaked me out.just think about it people, its gonna be really hard for Utada to please both her new American fans( who just listen to mainstram) and Japanese fans who love “Utada Hikaru”. unless a new popular trend comes to America in listening Japanese pop..which i highly doubt, its gonna be tough i think for hikki. Asian and world-wide fans don’t hesitate to listen to Utada’s English stuff, but America listening to Utada’s Japanese stuff is a different story…after some time, when Utada makes her 6th Japanese album, half of the people who listened to utada in America (and the media) will eventually forget about her. than if she makes her next English album, she’s basically gonna start back to square one (or no?) in trying to gain popularity…THE media is cruel. and if people do eventually scream for a tour and she does say yes, its gonna have o be the best. but in the long run, if she just does become a one-hit-wonder, i bet she’ll be really proud of her accomplishments in showing her talent to the U.S.and Canada, and around the world..and hopefully her fan base will grow a bit too!does anyone else feel that way, or just me?sorry for the long post( i just had to let that issue off my chest)…

If you go to Z100.com, there is a question about Utada (Question of the day, right below).
Check it out.

That surprises me that they haven’t releaed TITO in the Phillippines, especially since it’s out now in other Asian countries.

scott_o_k added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:08 pm

Request Poppin’ on Z100’s request form!
I kid you not it is on there!

Ghostdog added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:17 pm

I guess this is nice. I had no idea that radio stations had stopped playing “Come Back To Me” though. Why? And I’ve never heard of this “Re-Releasing” songs to the radio before. I thought once they were released they were released. PERIOD. And then they get played until they die. *Confused*

InnerRise added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:22 pm

wow poppin’ i was going to guess mcml -fyi. i think that or this one (crying like a child) should be the next single, maybe even a PV lol. it should be an interesting month before the physical release, maybe they’ll even include a bonus track or something else.

diegwa added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:24 pm

^ Poppin’ isn’t the next single they played it during the interview and I assume they got some requests so they decided to just add it.

Ghostdog added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:28 pm

Poppin’ isn’t a bad song, it would be cool if it was the 2nd single but I was leaning more towards FYI. Poppin’ needs to have a featured artist to gain her more exposure in my opinion, maybe a verse from Kanye West?

FinalThrottle added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:33 pm

The US market is hard to break into unless the record company is backing the artist with tons o’ money. Not that IDJ isn’t doing that now, but I still get the feeling that they are still testing the waters so to speak. I dunno, I have no clue how so much crap gets played over and over and over again on the radio, but it is difficult to get CBTM played at some stations. I wouldn’t give up on CBTM yet with the impressions still rising daily. All it needs is a couple more adds to some top stations, like in LA or Chicago. (2nd and 3rd markets nationwide) I keep waitin’ and hopin’. We are so used to INSTANT success in the US or at least instant gratification that we forget that working up from the bottom was how it always was in the music industry. I’ll just keep on requesting and hope for the best.

nanchan added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:36 pm

The first trailer for EVANGELION:2.0 You can (not) advance. is out and it uses the 2007 mix of Fly Me To The Moon, which lends more credence to the theory that her new Japanese single will be the movie’s theme song.

soulsteelgray added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:42 pm

nanchan, I think IDJ is spending money. We see Utada’s face in some music stores like FYE, and they organized those Sephora events to build buzz. Plus, she must have good people to get her time on the radio show interviews.

Bluevilla added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:54 pm

InnerRise, when a song is “re-released” for airplay, I assume the record company is footing money for the single to “go for adds” again to tell music directors to add it. It’s not very common, but it’s happened before. Another example is Stacie Orrico’s “I’m Not Missing You”, which even had a new music video to support it. I think Z100 just LIKED “Poppin’” and added it to their playlist b/c they don’t want to play a ballad single (CBTM). I’m not a fan of the idea, as I think CBTM is really good.

Bluevilla added these pithy words on Mar 31 09 at 10:59 pm

Yikes! The info and radio terminology has been getting thrown around and getting all mixed up here. Let me see if I can clarify some things:
- Radio stations by and large have not “stopped” playing CBtM, it’s spins and impressions have been growing slowly but steady.
- “Come Back to Me” and “Poppin” are on Z100’s request page because they are recent plays and want to gauge reaction. Neither have been officially added to Z100’s playlist (though let’s try to change that!).

scott_o_k added these pithy words on Apr 01 09 at 12:01 am

I’ve been requesting and asking KIIS 102.7 FM in LA “When are you going to play Utada’s CBTM”, and they keep telling me “We’ve been getting a lot of requests. We’ll try!” At least they’re honest, and not saying they will play it for me or that it’s on their playlist.

Bluevilla added these pithy words on Apr 01 09 at 12:04 am

^@itaikoon I don’t think that Americans won’t for certain not listen to her Japanese stuff when it’s released. After Shakira broke the US market with “Laundry Service” she released another album in Spanish and it sold in the US, too- it even became the best-selling Spanish language album ever.

So, it’s possible that the audience will be willing to follow Hikki’s work in Japanese as well.

It is possible to be a global superstar, including America. (Just difficult) :D

ruruna added these pithy words on Apr 01 09 at 12:49 am

ruruna, also, there is a larger Spanish speaking population in America than Japanese.

Bluevilla added these pithy words on Apr 01 09 at 1:20 am

Bluevilla, that is true. However, I was merely trying to point out that interest was piqued and she sold records here in her native language. Not only that, but she gained a lot of fans who did not speak Spanish who listened to her new album.

I’m not saying that Utada would necessarily have that kind of success, or even that the odds are in her favor for that kind of success, just pointing out that it’s a possibility that Americans are capable of looking into different languages once the gate is opened.

ruruna added these pithy words on Apr 01 09 at 2:33 am

Ruruna I could have sworn that Selena’s Amor Prohibido was the highest selling spanish speaking album since it produced 4 #1 singles.

Anyway Hikki is slowly getting recognized here in the states. By June I hope CBTM blows up on the charts.

gantzman246 added these pithy words on Apr 01 09 at 6:18 pm

Gantzman246 you might be correct on that… I neglected to put down fastest selling Spanish album of all time (in that it sold the most over it’s debut), that is Fijación Oral Vol. 1 . However, it also had several #1 singles on it as well, so I could’ve been correct otherwise… I’m not going to look it up.

Alright, that’s all I’m saying on the subject. Let’s talk about Utada now… lol

ruruna added these pithy words on Apr 01 09 at 8:22 pm

Shakira, Selena, Gloria Estefan, Enrique Iglasias, etc. have all had successful spanish language albums chart in the US. I’m sure most Americans can name a few Spanish hit songs off the top of their head. The only japanese language album that charted well in the US was by Kyu Sakamoto.

Sugar Cat added these pithy words on Apr 02 09 at 4:06 am

^This is pretty awesome considering that one, she’s new artist, two, a foreign/international artist thats basically unknown by industry standards beyond Japan, and finally, the fact I don’t even think we’ve seen it been promoted to it fullest potential yet! So Yea, things are getting better as we make our way to the physical release…I’m so excited all over again now!

kinghikari009 added these pithy words on Apr 02 09 at 6:35 pm

@scott_o_k: it really bothers me why they didnt release TITO in most asian countries; i only know of japan, singapore and hongkong(?)

hisui added these pithy words on Apr 03 09 at 12:51 pm

@ scott_o_k / hisui
YEAH! most of her latter works (DEEP RIVER, ULTRA CLUE & HEART STATION) are not released here in the Phil.. but they were in other asian countries like Korea, Chania (and Taiwan), Singapore, and the like.. but the fact that EXODUS was released here, there is a big chance that it’ll be released here as well under Universal-MCA.. we just have to bug them.. now i’m wondrin’ if i’m bugging them late (coz the digital release was March 14) or im bugging them really early (coz the physical release is on May 12).. >.< but don’t worry.. we’re working on it.. heheh..
and nice to know that promos are still on going.. i give one thumbs up to IDJ.. i’ll give them the other one once Hikki’s already established American music artist.. (with matching a journalist-ish winning smile! hahah!)
