No…Gene Simmons had an interview…There was a snippet of FYI (that gave me chills and thrills). Can’t wait <3

  2. jessipooh says:

Gene Simmons saying “宇多田、最高です!” was so awesome.

  3. hisui says:

I saw the snippet of FYI!!! I think I’m gonna go crazy!!!! YAY! YAY! YAY!

  4. orchid says:

    She’s onnnn~ She mentioned Sephora XD~~

  5. mimi says:

not a good performance at all!!! i think she is sick!

  6. poopoo says:

She’s sounding good in these snippets! Also, TITO is #51 on the US iTunes store.

The little interview was good. CBTM had a good start, but she started to squawk those high notes at the end. I hope this gets her a bit more exposure.

  7. RJ says:

lol That wasn’t very good. Those high notes, eek…

  8. Wonderbout2000 says:

It’s was alright. She sounded kinda of tired. Well she did say she wasn’t used to waking up so early.

  9. scott_o_k says:

Man, that performance was rough. I’m guessing because she had to get up so early and maybe was nervous?

  10. orchid says:

^Was it Gene, jessipooh? I totally laughed out loud when I heard it XD~
    But yah…She sounded too nasally and kinda exhausted ._.;

  11. baboona says:

    is someone recording this?

  12. scott_o_k says:

I haven’t appreciated how difficult a song Come Back to Me might be until watching that. It’s pitched pretty high considering how deep Utada’s natural voice is.

  13. takkun29 says:

I was disappointed by the performance too. I did record the audio (started late, so I missed the piano intro). I guess I was expecting much more, but I did like the little changes she did. Now that I’m just listening to the audio, it doesn’t sound that bad.

  14. jessipooh says:

I wonder if those were just standard studio mics and IDJ/Utada Papa didn’t make sure she had her ear monitors and all that?

  15. scott_o_k says:

So I just got up actually, lol. So is this it? Sounded like there were other performances?

  16. atlier00 says:

It was terrible to watch it online, luckily it didn’t lag during the performance. It wasn’t too bad of a performance, but I know she can do better. She may have just been tired and didn’t warm up before performing. Can’t say really.

  17. RJ says:

^There were short snippets of “Me Muero” and “FYI” while they were going to commercials. But “CBTM” was the only full performance.

  18. hisui says:

i hope someone recorded. I didnt get to “enjoy” her performance because of my crappy net connection. it keeps on buffering. heh. but i did hear how she hit the higher notes. i’ve been dreading about this… hikki having a hard time singing CBTM live. -_-

  19. InnerRise says:

Gosh. Even though I missed it, these descriptions of the performance make me feel bad for Utada. I hope this doesn’t hurt her chances. I really wanted her to do well. I’m cringing at the thought of seeing it now.

  20. atlier00 says:

I wish Utada could just use the mic she always uses for her live performances. She seems to do really well whenever she does.

  21. RJ says:

lol Maybe KTLA won’t upload it and we’ll all forget about it….

  22. scott_o_k says:

InnerRise, I think it’s OK. Apparently the clips of the other songs sounded good, so people watching probably won’t come away thinking that she can’t sing, but just had a bad experience with that one performance. Of course I wish she nailed it but I don’t think this hurt her.

  23. Utadaholic says:

    I personally love her performance.
It can’t believe how lucky I am to get to see her live performance on TV.
I’m not happy hearing all the negative comments about her singing. Yes some of the notes were off, yes she was nervous, but still I can tell she gave her 100% to the performance.
I know it’s also important to be critical but now she’s trying to break out in the US…she deserves more appriciation.
You say you want her to tour in the US, but I don’t think she wants to perform where people only try to find flaws in her singing, makeups, hairstyles, and whatsoever.

Anyways, I’ll be getting ready for tonight’s listening party at Sephora in Hollywood.
I’ll be there with my physical This Is The One album!!!!

  24. scott_o_k says:

Oh don’t get us wrong Utadaholic, I think we’re *all* glad to see Hikki on TV even if the performance was rough. This just makes me want to see her on TV even more!

  25. gantzman246 says:

    Oh damn I missed it!!

  26. I recorded CBTM on video, but I think my camera didn’t capture it too well. I’ll upload it tonight after the Hollywood event and see how it looks. Oh well…at least we still got to see her. I like what we saw of FYI and Me Muero – every time I hear those songs, I get the chills.

  27. orchid says:

Yeah, when they were going into commercial, they used the beginning of the FYI clip – including the intro melody. And then when she started singing…Shivers!
I dunno…the only reason I’m unhappy with this is that I know she’s capable of singing so much better live. And for her to have “international pop sensation with 52 million albums” attached to her name, the general populace who don’t know her would probably have higher expectations.
Sadly, I don’t think she met them with this sub-par performance.

  28. cucupan says:

i recorded FYI and CBTM, but the quality is questionable. LOL

i’m uploading them now onto YouTube. hopefully they show up okay.

  29. Anhlin says:

Recorded the 7-9 program. They played Me Muero near the end and suddenly it gets cut off and goes to commercial, I got pissed off lol. Her real performance was in the 9-10 hour.

Like others have said her CMTB performance wasn’t very impressive, the Me Muero and FYI clips however were promising. It’s a shame they were only clips, they played the FYI intro a few times when they were about to go to commercial and that’s about it.

  30. InnerRise says:

    Thanks Cucupan.

I’d really rather not comment on the performance but glad I got to see it.

  31. orion2013 says:

    it was great

  32. Phil88 says:

Can anyone upload a high qual version?

Also is she still performing the 3 songs on ryan seacrests show? Im confused, did she perform them on his show or KTLA or both ?_?

  33. atlier00 says:

After listening to it again, the CBTM performance wasn’t that bad. She drops it in places, but it was good. Its nowhere near her Kiss & Cry performance mishap *shudders*

  34. Well she made it past the Ryan Seacrest Show and KLTA appearance; Now lets hope we hear about that Today Show or Good Morning America proposal Billboard magazine speculated about earlier on!…Keep up the effort, U-girl, i’m glad to see her chilling and breaking w/ watching the baseball world series w/ Kuma even though she says she couldn’t care less about them -lol-…

  35. ShinjiPG says:

There’s a better quality video of CBTM performance on KTLA here: http://www.ktla.com/landing_morningnews_clip/?Japanese-Superstar-Utada-Makes-American-=1&blockID=248090&feedID=2240

Saddly, it’s terribly bad. Just bad. What the hell Utada.

  36. camouflage says:

Yeah, after 30 seconds into the song I had to close it.

Thank goodness I don’t believe in omens.

  37. xHeartStation says:

In Utada’s defense….it was her first live on U.S TV and she must have been pretty nervous….

  38. Bluevilla says:

Yes, I also don’t think anyone should perform live so early in the morning. Your vocals aren’t warmed up yet. And KTLA doesn’t have the best sound system.

  39. Xcapist says:

i thought the performances were bad…=\
